Health Information Technology (HIT) and Telehealth champions have been innovators in Oklahoma for over twenty years. The face of healthcare is changing rapidly in our country, with HIT and telehealth increasingly viewed as essential components of success for this revolution.

The 2016 HIT and Telehealth Conference this year will be happening at InnoTech Oklahoma.  This event is November 1 in Oklahoma City at the Cox Center and is hosted by OKHIMSS and Telehealth Alliance of Oklahoma.  It will be a full day of educational focused topics important to healthcare professionals involved in technology decisions and policy actions.

Session Descriptions

Morning Keynote – Former State Senator Ben Robinson, author of the Oklahoma Telecommunications Act (1996) and the Oklahoma Telemedicine Act (1997), will share how his innovative legislation came about and what was envisioned at that time for telehealth in Oklahoma.

Ethical Boundaries for Telehealth: Panel discussion focusing on Ethics and Telehealth with professionals representing legal, clinical and technical aspects of the impact of technology when providing health care services to patients. Regulatory guidelines will be discussed, and case scenarios presented.

What Would We Do without Them? Smartphone and Mobile Device Security: Speakers will address current privacy and security legal framework for mobile devices accessing, storing and/or transmitting health information; real world usage of mobile devices by health care professionals with its potential issues; and privacy and security best practices and strategies for safeguarding data on mobile devices.

Physician, Nurse, Allied Health, Patient: Engaging the Participant – Participants include a variety of healthcare providers as well as the individuals receiving the medical specialty services. In order for optimal clinical outcomes, it is crucial that all participants have a basic understanding of telehealth as a delivery mode including its potential and possible pitfalls. Speakers with expertise and experience will share engagement strategies and lessons learned.

Telehealth in Your Hands: Consumer-Driven Healthcare – Whether you call it ‘Direct-to-Consumer’ or ‘Virtual Health’, healthcare technology options have evolved rapidly over a short period of time. Speakers will share their perspectives and experiences on the benefits and risks of Consumer-Driven Healthcare.
